Do not be yoked

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 1 Corinthians 6:14

What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.” Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 6:15 to 7:1

Word of God teaches us not to be conformed to patterns of this world, Jesus loved sinners that includes thieves, prostitutes, murderers, etc but he hated sin and their evil deeds. Today, we have the mind of Christ, let us have the same attitude that Christ had, let us not be yoked with unbeliever by partaking in their sin. We need to maintain that balance by loving them but not their sinful ways or deeds.

Marriage is one of the main area where this truth applies. Marriage relationship is a very close union and a believer who marries an unbeliever disobeys this scripture. Lord should be first in a believer’s life. How could that person possibly become one with someone who doesn’t love the Lord? If you are already married to an unbeliever, here is the Word of Hope, with God all things are possible, He can able to save your spouse, trust God, pray that his/her eyes be enlightened to know our Lord. Also, through your behavior and being witness for Christ in love will lead them to know Him. I have seen many families like this where unbelieving spouse come into knowledge of God and all glory to God. But, many are going through hard times in this area. If you are not married then take this verse carefully before making decisions. If you are married to an unbeliever, continue to remain faithful in love and trust in God!

Remember, not everyone with Christian names are believers, likewise not everyone with non-Christian names are unbelievers. But, one who love the Lord more than anything and believe in Him wholeheartedly are believers and known by their fruits. So when you are yoked with someone then remember this passage of scripture that is teaching us, the new covenant believers in Christ to beware.
