From the time I brought your forefathers up from Egypt until today, I warned them again and again, saying, “Obey me.” Jeremiah 11:7
God warned the Israelites again and again to obey Him. But, they did not pay attention, they followed the stubbornness of their evil hearts. We can see that they all ended up in disaster as mentioned in Jeremiah 11:11. The reason why God asked them to obey Him is for their goodness, God wanted them to be blessed. Today, Jesus is telling us you and me that if we love Him then we will obey what He command.
Again, our Lord Jesus wants us to be blessed and He doesn’t want us to be destroyed or deceived by the enemy. We can obey Him if we love Him, we can love Him only when we understand His love. This is the reason why Paul prayed that the Ephesians may be rooted and established in God’s love. Let that be our prayer, let us not give place for stubbornness or evil in the heart. Let us grow in God’s unconditional love and grace.
So many people do not take the warning seriously, this is the reason why many end up in destruction and deception. Its a great blessing to obey God, if we say we love God then God expects us to obey Him wholeheartedly. When He says forgive, forgive. When He says forget, forget. When He says help, help. When He says honor your parents, honor. When He says love others, love. Again, Christianity is not a set of rules to follow, but yielding to God by walking in the Spirit.
