He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, Psalm 23:2
Praise God! Jesus is our good shepherd and we are His flock. The shepherd takes the sheep to the green pastures, the sheep do not worry for their food, they just follow the shepherd wherever he takes them because they are sure that their Master is in control. God’s word is our Spiritual food, we should read, meditate and live according to the word of God each and every day. When we listen to His voice and follow Him, He will lead and guide us. The shepherd makes the sheep to lie down in green pastures, there is safety when the shepherd is present, the sheep need not be afraid of anything. We are safe and secure in God’s presence, we need not worry about anything because even if something comes against us, God changes everything for good. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 God gives us abundant grace and His grace is sufficient for us.
The shepherd leads the sheep beside quiet waters so that the sheep can quench their thirst peacefully. The quiet waters are streams that are clear and pure which is either still or moves slowly. He does not take the sheep to the stream which flows wildly without control, the sheep may get frightened because to the noise. Jesus is our living water, He gives us inner peace and rest in our life, He fills our heart with His everlasting love. Even though sometimes the situation may seem noisy and confusing outside but we will have the joy and peace inside our heart that the world cannot give. God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:5
When the sheep stays with the shepherd each and every need is taken care of but when they go astray or stop following him then they may get lost. They may loose track and end up in trouble. God wants us to abide in Him always but when we get attracted by the worldly ways and get side tracked then we get lost and left alone. The shepherd does not ignore the lost sheep but will leave the other sheep on the hills and will go to look for the one that wandered off. When we were away from God, He took the first step and brought us back to Him. God sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ as an atoning sacrifice for our sins and we are saved by His grace. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 1 Peter 2:25
