I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. 2 Chronicles 7:16
The meaning for consecration means to set apart, God have chosen and set apart the temple in old covenant. Today, God’s Word says you and I are the temple of God as our Lord Jesus purchased us with a great price of shedding His blood on the cross. We belong to God as He has chosen us and set apart for His glory!
The Lord called Jeremiah when he was a young man and said to him, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. Before you were born I consecrated you and appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5, 6) Once a servant of God said, “It does not take great men to do great things; it only takes consecrated men.”
God consecrates (set apart) us and He also wants us to consecrate (set apart). Listen to me, Levites! Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the LORD, the God of your ancestors. Levites are priests, today you and I are priests as scripture says in 1 Peter 2:9 “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,”. Joshua told people, “Consecrate yourselves” (Joshua 3:5). As like how an uncleaned vessel is not good for use, you and I cannot be used by God if we are uncleaned. If a vessel is clean then its ready to be used for the master’s purpose.
He cleansed us with His precious blood and today we are sons and daughters of God, but He called us to continue to remain in His everlasting love. Yes, love is the basis of consecration. Jesus said, if you love Me you will keep My commands. Paul says, the love of Christ constrains us; he was telling that the reason why he is serving the Lord is because He was called by God and secondly love of Christ constrained him. Constrained means, “pressed on from all sides, tightly confined on all sides”. Its like how the center part in a flower is confined on all sides by its petals.
Finally, set apart (consecrate yourselves) for the Lord. Watchman Nee said, “Consecration means that we say, “Lord, You have given me the opportunity and the right to come before You and to serve You.” It is saying, “Lord, I am Yours. My ears were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. My hands were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. My feet were purchased by the blood; they belong to You. From now on I can no longer use them for myself.” God bless you!
