Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
The walls of Jerusalem were broken down and Nehemiah heard about this and he prayed unto God for 4 months which is around 122 days, God opened doors, as a first step he got approval from Artaxerxes, king of Persia (445/444 BC) to go ahead with the mission of rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah completely depended on the Lord, when he faced some threats he prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet the this threat. Nehemiah 4:9 Everyday He relied on God who makes all things work together for our good.
Finally, the walls was finished in just fifty-two days (Nehemiah 6:15). He prayed for nearly 122 days and this greatest challenging work was finished within just 52 days which is less than half of the days he prayed. The point is Nehemiah trusted God and prayed unto Lord, he completely depended on God and God made impossible things to become possible in Nehemiah’s life even though he was just an ordinary man. God is looking for ordinary men and women who put their trust in Him and who can completely depend on Him.
During the life of Jesus on this earth, scripture says he prayed, especially here in Mark 1:35, that previous night Jesus was with his disciples in Peter’s home and next day early morning Jesus went to pray to God the Father. Peter and his companions were looking for Jesus and finally they found Him, they told, “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied “Let us go somewhere else to the nearby villages so I can preach there also. This why I have come.” Jesus prayed to the Father and did the Father’s will, He was not moved by what others what Him to do but what His Father wants Him to do. Today, God called you and me to do His will and having prayerful life is key important, our Lord Jesus is our example to follow.
Today, if you want to do God’s will then pray to know His will, after knowing His will continue to pray to follow His will and then continue to pray to fulfill His will. Always depend on Him, He who started the good work in you will surely accomplish it for His glory. Jesus taught us to pray to do His will, He told us to for His Kingdom to come, pray to overcome temptation, pray to make our needs known to God and He will meet our needs. Two important things we need to know before praying is to know God as our Father and know that all things are possible with God. Jesus loves you! Finally, Joseph M. Scriven who wrote what a Friend we have in Jesus wrote, “O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” Take everything to Lord in prayer for He is more than enough for us! He is always with us and we will not be shaken!
